Wood can save lives
During World War II, Charles and Ray Eames were not yet designing chairs.
They were saving legs.
Literally.
Army metal splints did more damage than broken bone. So they designed an alternative with something simple and warm: hand-molded birch plywood, steam-molded to fit the body.
It was a fairly simple solution but above all very humane and useful, which unintentionally seeded the concept of beauty in functional design, it was what gave way to their iconic chairs.
It was not born in a marketing office. It was born out of a real need.
At WOODABU we don't make splints or chairs. But we share the essentials:
- We only use solid wood.
- We work with our hands taking care of every detail.
- And we listen to only one question before creating:
What is this person's real need?
The rest is just form.
And if it excites when you look at it, so much the better.
