How to know if a piece of furniture is really sustainable (and you're not being sold smoke)

More and more brands are talking about "sustainability". But... how many actually apply it to their furniture? Greenwashing is everywhere, and many times "eco" is just marketing. Here we give you the keys to distinguish a truly sustainable piece of furniture from one that only looks sustainable.

🌱 What makes a piece of furniture truly sustainable?

  1. Renewable and certified materials

    • PEFC or FSC certified wood.

    • Water-based, non-toxic stains and varnishes.

  2. Local production

    • Made close to where you live, not thousands of miles away.

    • Reduces carbon footprint and supports the local economy.

  3. Timeless design

    • Not to go out of fashion in two years.

    • That you can easily repair or reuse.

  4. Transparency in the value chain

    • Do you know who made that piece of furniture? Where? How?

    • If you can't answer that, be suspicious.

🪵 At Woodabu, we are committed to real sustainability.

  • Local wood from sustainably managed forests.

  • Handmade in Madrid.

  • Production to order: zero waste, zero dead stock.

  • Durable, customizable and meaningful design.

We do not believe in "eco" as a label, but as a way of life.

🧐 How to avoid greenwashing in the furniture industry

  • Beware of phrases such as "natural materials" without specifying.

  • Ask about the origin of the wood.

  • Be wary of prices that are too low: someone or something is paying the real cost.

  • Look for brands that show you the process, the workshops, the people behind them.

🙌 Choosing well is part of the change.

When you buy a piece of furniture, you're not just buying design. You are choosing what kind of world you want to contribute to: one of mass consumption and silent pollution? Or one where things are done well, in a slow cooker?
